Marcus Oakey is the founder of Your Charisma Coach and the Conversation Masterclass, and is the author of the e-book “How to Talk to Anybody Without Fear of Rejection.” He has trained thousands of students, business professionals, and celebrities in countries all around the world for more than a decade, and has even worked with clients and instructors of several major dating companies.
In this interview, Marcus starts out by discussing the many qualities of great conversation. He demonstrates how to be more enthusiastic, ask questions that invoke emotion, and use statements that express your personality. He emphasizes the importance of listening, and offers advice on how to quiet the chatter in our heads and become better listeners. Marcus also gives advice on how to be more relaxed and come up with wittier responses in a conversation. He then describes the four key components of connection.
Marcus goes on to cover more specific aspects of conversation. He talks about the foundations of storytelling, and gives advice on how people can tell more engaging stories. Next, he explains why positive emotions are so critical to being a good conversationalist. He also shares some strategies for checking in with someone during a conversation, being more observant, and how to handle awkward pauses or silences.
Finally, Marcus talks about the importance of authenticity, sharing your truth, and being present and in tune with your emotions. He offers advice for people who might be inhibited by internal pressures or conflicts. He then encourages the listeners to take action by setting conversation goals, gaining reference experiences, and experimenting with new conversation tactics.
